The Motion Picture Club came across a new streaming service for films, and we really love a lot of Fandor’s unique offerings.
Like other streaming services (e.g. Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime), Fandor provides video on demand content, available across multiple platforms—TV set-top, desktop and mobile devices. However there are a few very cool key differences:
- Fandor specializes in independent and classic films. You won’t find last summer’s box office blockbuster on Fandor, but you will find award-winning, critically acclaimed films, shorts and documentaries spanning all genres from the 1890’s to today.
- Fandor’s team has a genuine love for film, and they’re focused on sharing that passion with the service’s users. They carefully curate film spotlights and editorial content to give historical context to the films their viewers are selecting.
- Fandor has proven that they are committed to supporting the independent film community. In fact, half of all the membership fees are invested back into the films watched.
Every once in a while, we will suggest various films offered by this service, which we think are worth a watch.
